Mikhail Gorbacher And The End Of Communism

Mikhail Gorbachev had his own ideas and believes. In 1984, he announced a policy know as glasnost or openness and began the democratization of the Soviet Union. He encouraged soviet citizens to discuss ways to improve their society. In 1985, Gorbachev invented the idea of perestroika or economic restructuring, meaning he made changes to revive the soviet economy and create it again.

Collapse Of Communism

When Communism collapsed it was a big turning point in history.Diplomats, finally had an opportunity to enter the Soviet Union without military aid. The Berlin wall got tared down and When Communism fell, there was less of a need for concern about nuclear Annhilation. People tore down the wall because it wasnt allowing people from the east get to the west and it was preventing the west to get to the east, people would get shot if they tried to cross it.Also, the Soviet Union separated into fifteen different Republics, which were Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Lativa, Lithuania, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Creation Of Israel

Zionism-a worldwide Jewish movement that resulted in the establishment and development of the state of Israel.

The conflict that happened when Israel was formed was that basically the Arabs hated the Jews and whatever chance that the Arabs would have to attack the Jews they would take.Through out all this the government would sit back and watch this all happen. The Israelis and the Palestinians didn't get along as well they would fight about who Israel belonged to.

Nelson Mandela And Apartheid

To me Apartheid meant that Africans did not have the right to vote in elections and until 1990 many public facilities and institutions were restricted to the use of one race only.Nelson Mandela was a hero to the Africans because he fought for Unity and Liberation. He is so admired by all these authors and all these websites because he wrote books and he fought for African Unity and Liberation.

African Independence

Africa changed soo much during 1955 and 1975 because during 1955 there were more colonies then independent countries and the change in 1975 was that there were more independent countries formed then there were colonies. Some of the leaders were Patrice Lumumba he was the first prime minister who ruled a divided country. Leopold Sengal later became the first president of Senegal, and Kwame Nkrumah he was a leader of a non violent protest of people wanting freedom.

9th Grade Review- Neolithic Revolution

The Neolithic Revolution was when the Nomads lived in groups of 20-30 and lived in there own villages. They would spend most of there time hunting and gathering so that they could stay alive. These groups were divided between the men and the women, the men would hunt and the women would gather fruits and other crops. They developed good uses of tools such as spears, and axes made of bone and wood. The Neolithic Revolution was a change in the way people lived . Everything changed from hunting to agriculture led to permanent settlements , the establishment of social class and then the rise of civilization.

The European Union

The European Union was an alliance that changed Europe.Traveling around Europe was much better because of this Union. It used to be that travelers were stopped at each border to have their passports checked as they traveled between countries. Now people can travel around Europe without any problems. This was a good thing because it made it a lot better for people who were visiting around Europe without being held up checking passports and more. This will prevent the problem of checking passports every time you travel around a different part of Europe.

Film Lesson- "The Right Stuff"

In the movie called "The Right Stuff" the U.S and the USSR were competing to see who can get up into space first. Russia was really winning this race because they put the first to put a man into space. The United States were the first to send a man to the moon so basically it was even between the United States and Russia during the space race. This movie will remind me of the cold war because the movie showed that is was a race to see who could get into space first.

Cuban Missile Crisis

The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most closest nuclear wars the united states had ever come to. Cuba was going to use nuclear weapons to defend there island. In late April 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev created the idea of placing intermediate-range missiles in Cuba. When Fidel Castro was planning a second attack anyways on the united states since the invasion in 1961.When President John Kennedy Found out what was going on he imposed a naval quarantine around Cuba and said if they don't remove the missiles that the united states would invade the island. Kennedy then dropped a bomb called the U-2 over Cuba.On October 28 things started to change and an agreement was made that the missiles would be removed from Cuba and the united states would not move in to invade the island.

NATO And The Warsaw Pact

The Warsaw Pact was an organazation of central and Eastern European Communist States. This pact consisted mostly of the Soviet Union and its satellite countries. It was established on May 1, 1955 in Poland. Nato was an organazation that includes countries in Europe and North America. The reason for this was that the countries involved wanted a mutual defence alliance so that if one of them were attacked all of the other countries would come to thier side. The Europeans and the Soviet Union formed these organazations so that they would feel that they had help from other countries if needed.

Film Lesson: "Night And Fog"

-Some of my reactions to the movie "Night And Fog" are that a lot of it was disturbing and brutal. I found the movie very powerful it showed me a lot about what they did to the Jews and how they reacted to a lot of violence. The movie Schindler's List had a lot of comparision to this movie because in both movies the Jews were treated the same by the use of violence and brutal behavior. The documentary showed more about the Holocaust because it gave more detail and showed a lot more about what was going on.

Film Lesson: "Schindler's List"

- Schindler's list showed a lot about the holocaust. It showed how bad the Jews were being treated. The most powerful scene for me was the Krakow Ghetto, when the men women and th children were getting there homes ripped apart and some were being killed to try and run away. A lot of the images will stay in my head because of the scenes of the dead bodies being thrown every where and the scenes of people being shot for no reason.

US Bombing Of Japan In 1945

-I agree that the Atomic Bombing was the biggest story of the year because it had many people wondering if it was right killing all those innocent people in japan. I can think of a bigger news story about if it was right killing all those innocent people in japan. Even though japan was all ready surrendering it wasn't right to kill/hurt all of those innocent people.I would not change anything on the top 100 news stories because they are all important and they all mean something.

Germany At War - WW2

Anti-Bolshevism-propaganda-information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, or a nation.

Mustafa Kemal And The Modernization Of Turkey

- Mustafa Kemal aspired to freedom and equality to turkey, when he became leader he quoted that the new Turkish State is a state of the people and a state by the people. To give his nation a modern outlook, Atatürk introduced many reforms. European hats replaced the fez. Transformation took place in the urban and rural life. Its also said that few nations have ever experienced anything comparable to the social change in Atatürk's Turkey.

Film Lesson On Gandhi.

-Some of the things Gandhi did was making his own clothing and that led his people to do the same thing so they wouldn't buy from the British. He told the Indian population to stop paying taxes particularly the tax on salt, So they traveled to the Arabian Sea where they made salt by evaporating sea water but then Gandhi was arrested. Gandhi Refused to eat when he found out his people were fighting back at the British when they were being beaten, He wanted to prove that he didn't use violence for anything so then his people stop and he came off of his eating strike.

-Gandhi's philosophy of none violence was that he never used it because he wanted to prove himself as a leader and show that he didn't need to use violence back at the British to succeed in becoming a leader. Gandhi used it affectively by showing the British that they can beat his people as much as they want but they wont use it back but many people were hurt in this case. When Gandhi found out his people used violence back to make his people stop he wouldn't eat until they stopped.

Extra Credit:
- I think India's Independence was all about Gandhi because if it wasn't for him the Indian population would have been the way it was before Gandhi was in the picture. They needed someone to lead them to independence. World War 1 had a lot to do with India's Independence around that time

The Treaty Of Versailles

-The Treaty Of Versailles effected germany in many ways. Germany Was the one to take the blame for world war 1 so they basically had a lot to do with the treaty. They lost a lot of land and many priorities such as principals:12% of thier population, 13% of thier territory , 16% of all coal production , 48% of all iron production , 80% of pre-war fleet and 100% of thier pre- war colonies. Historians say that fascism and adolph hitler had something to do with this because germany was weak and adolph hitler basically told them that he was going to take over and make them do what he wanted to do.
